Pontile Destriero Cannagione

We left Olbia Marina just after 0700 with no wind and clear skies. By the time we had motored out of the Olbia approach channel the wind had filled in from the South so we unfurled the genoa and were soon romping along at 6 knots; it was good to be sailing again. The passage north to our current location passed uneventfully with the wind dying by 0900. It was interesting to pass by some of the locations we had visited in 2009 including Portisco marina and the bay of Cala  Volpe.

It was very quiet on the water we saw just 2 other sailing yachts and 3 huge motor yachts. At 11.30 we heard an announcement of a gale warning on the VHF so we increased our speed to get to Cannigione and decided to take a pontoon berth rather than anchoring.

The town here is small but has adequate provisions and plenty of places to eat out etc. Most importantly there are 2 self-service laundry shops. Jacky had the washing completed by 1700.

The pontoon here is lovely - at its head is a small bar with shaded area to sit at small table and comfy lounging seats as well. There are numerous plant tubs with abundant colourful flowering shrubs and herbs plus the usual bougainvillea and other trees which gives the very necessary shade.The shower and toilet facilities are small but clean and there was plenty of hot water last night. Today there is an open market in the town with fresh produce as well as several clothing and linen ware stalls for the kitchen and dining room.

We met a very interesting and friendly Polish couple with their son and spent a delightful evening last night on their boat sampling Polish Vodka served with chilled apple juice - delicious! We are all planning to have a meal out this evening at a restaurant recommended by fellow Cruising Association members before leaving tomorrow for various anchoring spots in the Maddalena islands.
