Siracusa and Marzamemi 10th -14th September
We spent 2 nights at anchor in Siracusa bay on the south side away from the town as there was a strong southerly when we arrived on the 10th following our motor sail south from Catania. We even had white horses kicking up in the bay. We had various wind directions and gusts of over 30 knots whilst there and several thunder storms with the odd drop of rain although we could see that over the town ( just a mile or so away) it poured. After two nights we decided to head back to the marina so called up to book a place. We got some laundry done and enjoyed another visit to the market deli as well as some more fresh food purchases. Finally after another night here we headed out again for the small port of Marzamemi which had been recommended by a chap on-board the yacht moored next to us. This little place was charming with a very friendly group of staff, we had booked ahead by phone and on arrival called up on the VHF and were given instructions for berthing. We had two good strong mooring lines passed to us and so were very secure for the one night we spent there. We didn’t go into the village but made use of the showers and toilets in the small office block. We paid for one night (25 Euros) and having checked the weather decided we had a good window to get across to Malta the following day.
