Having hired a car for 2 days Jacky took Rob to the airport and collected Bert and Gerry, stopping at Lidl for shopping on the way back to the marina. Once settled in and following a relaxing few hours at the pool we all got ‘brushed up’ for a trip to a tavern along the coast to celebrate Bert’s birthday. It was a scenic drive along the north coast of Gouvia bay passing through various holiday/ touristy centres and some delightful small villages. We arrived at our destination – the Taverna Mitso in Nasaki village and found the setting to be delightful with a large decked area built out over the rocks. It was worth booking a table as we were placed directly overlooking the sea. Unfortunately it wasn’t a very clear evening and the various islands to the east were only seen through a haze. The food was delicious and the ambiance super; we were greeted by the ‘madam’ as long lost friends as Jacky had explained that her sisters had been frequent visitors 20 years previously with their children and husbands!
The next day we set off for a sail to Paxos – we had the jib out for part of the way, and stopped in Lakka Bay at the north end of the island to anchor and have lunch. We had planned to stay overnight but the wind got up, the bay was very crowded and we dragged the anchor twice so finally left in a good force 5 to head down the east side of the island to Gaeus for a more secure berth. Unfortunately there was no room at the north end of the quay so we ended up in the main part of town which was a bit noisy and very busy. The following morning we moved to the north quay. We had a lovely meal at the ‘grill taverna’ which we have used before- their spit roast lamb is delicious and we took our own mint sauce!
