Prevesa marina revisted

Prevesa Marina Tuesday 17th – Saturday 21st September
Our journey to Prevesa started with a real promise of a good sail – we set the main up and then unfurled most of the jib and headed south on what we thought would be a fast passage. However the wind yet again prevented this and soon we were forced to abandon the jib and just motor-sail into the wind waves and the swell coming from the west made us roll too boot! We were glad to get to Prevesa and almost surfed in on the waves in the entrance canal. Mariah was ahead of us and Anne called us to say there was room on one of the pontoons in the marina so we proceeded straight there and were soon tied up alongside and connected to power and water. The charge here for our boat was still 13 Euros per night. We explored the town a bit more on this visit and found it to be really very nice with a good deal more to it than first appears. As it is a University town there are proper shops and loads of cheaper cafes and bars that the students use. We enjoyed a very happy evening with John to celebrate his birthday – Anne had bought a wonderful cake which we took to the restaurant and we had drinks on board Mariah with Tony and Margaret joining us too before heading out into town.
Having been on town quays and marina type moorings we all decided that a quiet day or two at anchor would be good. So on Sunday we headed out of Prevesa and went down through the Lefkas canal and on to Varko bay on the mainland – this is a favourite of Tony and Margaret’s. It was lovely to be able to swim again and the anchorage proved to be comfortable although in a southerly it would not be so good. It was quite busy when we arrived with 13 boats however by dusk there were just 7 left.
