Valtou Bay (north west of Iguomenitsa) Thursday and Friday 12th - 13th September
WE left our delightful anchorage after Jacky’s morning swim and headed southeast for our next destination. The wind was already blowing from the SE (right on the nose) so we made slow progress but fortunately the distance was only 12 or so miles. We saw no other yachts but several car ferries and two large passenger ferries - probably coming/going to Ancona in Italy. We had an adverse current too which made the boat speed under 5 knots for most of the passage! We entered the long NE facing channel and once in the shelter made quick progress to the furthest eastern bay where we dropped the anchor in 4.5 meters. We soon understood why Tony and Margaret call this ‘jumping fish’ bay! We saw a number of quite big fish (at least 15”) just in the first 30 minutes of being anchored! Later we were joined by 5 other yachts including two with British flags - one of which was a Contessa 32!
As the dusk fell the clouds increased and we had thunder and lightning and some heavy rain (as per the forecast) which continued to fall sporadically during the night. The anchorage was most comfortable and very sheltered.
