On
arrival in the bay we found the Aphrodite hotel and restaurant pontoon on the
starboard side just before where all the gulets are moored up. We were soon tied
back using two of their lazy lines having been helped by Ramazon the owner and
Celin his assistant. This was a lovely spot with beautiful clear water for
swimming. The dock was new and attached to a sun bathing deck with steps leading
down to the water. Behind this was a restaurant and bar area with easy chair
seats. Then up a few steps were the small hotel units on 2 floors. Each room
having a king-size bed and separate bathroom en-suite all recently re-furbished.
Beyond that was the laundry area and toilet and showers for yachties! Ramazon
took us into town on his taxi boat and to the small agents office called Lodos
run by Solih where we were able to leave our paperwork to get legal access back
into Turkey. Just over an hour later we returned and collected our new Transit
log and passports with the new visas - the charge was 110 Euros. So
cheaper and quicker than anywhere else we have done this to date in
Turkey!
The
usual arrangements were in force at the restaurant – we were expected to eat
ashore so we did and the food was good and plenty of it, our bill for the two
nights to eat was around 100 TL per night. On Friday our friends on Piper
arrived, they originally came onto the pontoon with us but then discovered that
the taxi boat couldn’t take them to town until the evening so they headed off to
the main harbour. We followed the next day when we had a call from June to say
there was space for us inside. It is very nice little town with good facilities
for such a small place. It is very popular and fills up quickly with yachts and
gulets! There is plenty of room to anchor in the bay to the north west of the
harbour. The toilet and shower block is new and situated next to the harbour
office 1 TL for the WC and 3 TL for a shower – though the booth where you pay
the money is not always manned! The
charge here per night is 35 TL which includes water and electricity. There is a
good bread/patisserie shop on the far side of the square which has the
inevitable statue of Ataturk, and there are several small supermarkets,
chandlers, hairdresser/barbers and butcher’s shops. One of the cafe/bars offers
a laundry service – 15 TL for a 5 kilo load to be washed and dried. There is a
dolmus service to Marmaris cost – 9 TL each way and the journey time is 1.25
hrs. Osman's Place has good coffee and his partner Lee is Scottish! Most of the
restaurants have free security enabled wifi.
June
and Jacky went into Marmaris on Sunday and then caught a connecting bus to the
Yacht marina where they visited Barbara and Steve (friends from Lagos). They
were also invited to the marina BBQ which was good fun and Jacky caught up with
other friends – Judith and Tony whose boat Mora of Hamble had just been lifted
out the day before. June had a good look around as the marina is on her list of
possible places to stay for the winter.
The
forecasted weekend gales from the NW did not materialize but the rain arrived on
Monday morning so we decided to stay put for another night before heading
further east.
