While the weather was beautiful at noon, the conditions south of Gran Canaria were not so good.  It now appears that most of the Racing Division (about 10 boats) and about 10 Cruising Division boats were leaving today at the original Start.  Two boats down from us was a German racing boat, all red...we watched them prepare to leave, as the Las Palmas band came down the concourse.  Since it was Sunday, many locals were walking the concourse to see the boats and what they expected to be all of us leaving for the race.  We sent off the Germans with a "salute" from our canon just as they were passing our bow.  And then the day was a "chill out day", followed by a baked chicken dinner....Cap's version of Thanksgiving....and a viewing aboard of the Gary Cooper movie "Beau Geste" from about 1930!!  Another day in wait tomorrow....but, as we now do a quick analysis of the weather, we think we may not lose 2 days with a 2 day delayed start....we might actually lose less than 1 day.  The weather is everything in sailing....and we will keep watching it tomorrow, before the 2nd Start on Tuesday at 1pm....moreover, we may significantly alter our route to run more direct to St. Lucia, if the later weather suggests that.
