The boat reverberated to the sounds of snoring sailors overnight, before they were shaken at 0600 in preparation for an 0630 departure - we had the hundred miles  to Ventspils, Latvia in mind. We slipped at 0625, to be met by the forecast WSW4 - so we were hard on the wind from the start. GRIB was forecasting a veer to NW5 at c.0900, but for some reason the shift never came - although an increase to 6-7 certainly did.
We sailed on in bright sunshine, but by midday with no sign of a shift the skipper was thinking of invoking Plan B. Hence our arrival at Roomassaare at 1700 - we'd sailed 57 miles to make good 35 as Jim Crow flies...
Plan now is to raid a supermarket (last shop was in St Petersburg), have a meal ashore, and sail early again tomorrow. Mr GRIB says it will be NW3.... we will see....
