After a quiet night at anchor and a scrumptious bacon, sausage and egg breakfast, we weighed anchor in drizzly conditions but with a favourable SE2. Mr GRIB was forecasting the passage of an occluded front at about 1100, with an associated veering of the wind to W5.  As we rounded Pooseapea light and altered course to SW, this is exactly what occurred. After 30 mins of fickle conditions, we settled down to a storming close fetch as we closed the shallows and narrows between the islands of Hiiumaa, Saaremaa and the Estonian mainland.
For the next 4 hours we needle navigated, under two slabs and the staysail, along very tight and often twisting - but very well marked - channels: but with never more than 3 metres under the keel, and often less than 1.5m.  The skipper did the nav, Stuart the mark spotting, Sam the sail trimming, and Ken the inch perfect helming. And all the while it was blowing W6-7.
By 1800 the echo sounder was at last showing more than five metres once more as we closed the small port of Kuivast, on the island of Muhu. Alongside by 1930, we made 'last orders' for a local supper and a beer with 5 minutes to spare.
Tomorrow, we have Latvia in our sights....
