Monday. We’ve had an enjoyable two days so far here in A Coruna, soaking in the atmosphere, sun – and wind. Mr GRIB had warned us four days ago it was going to blow on Sunday, and it certainly did. Despite our chosen marina being in the centre of town (phot), the associated well have given us a couple of lively nights, especially around HW. But we were under the blessed gaze of Lady Carmen (phot), the patron Saint of seafarers around here, so all was OK.

There’s plenty of choice here with regard to food – on Saturday evening we found this terrific deli specialising in cured hams (phot), with some 550 of them hanging from the ceiling. I’m sorry to say we failed to sample them all, but enjoyed those that we did (phot). Bill and Jill then very kindly took the skipper and mate out to dinner on Sunday (and found the skipper a new shipmate – phot), before departing after breakfast on Monday to catch a bus to Santiago de Compestela and their onward flight to the UK. A huge thanks to you both for being such good shipmates, and sailing Aquila from south of Finisterre to here, come calm or storm. It’s been great to have you onboard again.

The remnants of Aquila’s crew then complete more dhobying, before setting off sight seeing in the heat of the midday sun. An enormous port control tower (phot) but no shipping, a grand seafront esplanade with serious development opportunities (phots), sparkling clear water (phot) with housing estates just off the beach (phot) and a somewhat out of kilter church tower (phot) all caught our eye.
Tomorrow Pippa joins us – so we’d better stand by! Then Tom and Hester too on Thursday – it will be wonderful to have so much of the family aboard together. And Mr GRIB is promising top rate ‘Hester weather’ as from Thursday – perfect!
