Friday: a 20 mile passage around Cabo Villano to Corme Porte. Tranquil the wind may have been (S1), but the atmospherics and swell brought Cabo Villano very much alive (phot) as it emerged out of the gloom: mist and spray gave us visibility of less than 1 mile at times. The skipper chose a passage inside an evil off-lying danger, bringing us within 2 cables of the Cape. Bill (phot) and Mate (phot) both looked suitably pensive as we ruminated on the charted wrecks and countless lost souls; this coast is not called ‘Costa da Morte’ for nothing (phot).

But we are pleased to report Aquila avoided adding to the tally. Corme Porte gave us shelter from the swell (phot), although the water was deep: the Manson Supreme was set in 9m, yet our stern was still too close to the rocks at the first attempt. Like a lot of this coast, the local architecture is nothing to write home about (phot). Ashore, we hiked the 7km there and back to the local point (phot), before enjoying a brief stop once back in the village. These four fledgers (phot) caught our eye; we wonder how their cousins in our ‘stable’ at home are faring.
