Saturday. After a quick visit to the local supermarket (where Chris really did bring back some Elephant – phot), we set sail for the 25 mile passage north to Ria Muros. The first couple of hours were in flat calm; a slightly apprehensive Tim (phot) was introduced to the skipper’s favourite past time of rock hopping, but Mike’s double check of the nav (phot) seemed to convince him it was all OK. As we cleared the inshore passage and headed out to sea, a NNW4 sprung up, giving us a sparkling beat (phot) to windward. Conditions could really not have been better – see associated phots (although all the excitement clearly took its toll on Mike!). Over some 4 hours the wind grew to NNW5-6, before we entered the more sheltered waters of Ria Muros. All agreed on the opportunity to anchor for the night in the most attractive Ensenada de San Francisco (phots). Later, Robert duly conveyed us for tapas ashore. As we returned onboard a Spanish customs cutter came over for a look at us; perhaps the RN element aboard put him off coming any closer! Down below, we ‘Chased the Lady’ with cards, and played another game that the skipper had been introduced to by an earlier crew (although he couldn’t remember its name, or the finer points of the all-important scoring system!).
