Thursday 3 July. La Turballe was so enchanting that we decided to stay an extra day – but then spent most of the additional time doing domestics! But the whole crew got into the swing, with George turning his hand to new skills: airing the duvet (phot). We also made good friends with Brian and Liz, the owners of a Sweden Yachts 340. Needless to say, much time was spent in each other’s cockpits enjoying various liquids while discussing the various shared aspects of our fabulous boats.

A planned race the next day for the 5 miles to Piriac-sur-Mer came to naught as there as absolutely nil wind. Piriac is yet another charming port with its tidal limitations superbly facilitated by a lifting sill, automatically triggered by the rising or falling tide and accompanied by digital depth gauge etc (phot). Sarah thought it good too(phot)! Once again we marvel at the capital invested in the infrastructure for the leisure market.

A hot, hot day called for the sunshade to be rigged (phot). Trisha and Sian arrived around teatime, having travelled by plane from Geneva, then train and eventually taxi – wonderful! After settling them in (including hilarious instructions on how to pump the heads – this really is a new adventure for Sian!), we ventured ashore – you are spoilt for choice in Piriac for family run restaurants.

Tomorrow: we sail the world!
