Last of the 'blog' before we leave Turkey. I have had one person emailing
me saying it should be 'Log' not 'Blog', but log is a record of sailing,
miles, speed position and is a legal document; a blog is short for 'web
log', so sorry, it is a blog or a diary.
We are on our own on the yacht having just said 'goodbye' to the
Culbertson family who have just spent nine days with us on board and to
Antonia and her friend Ruth who were on the yacht for awhile before going
off and doing some inland travelling on their own and then returning last
weekend.
We had the most divine lunch at one of Antonia's friend's summer house.
Twenty one young people and nine adults at trestle tables under pine trees
by the sea, and next to an old restored Byzantine Windmill; sitting on the
Windmill balcony with sundowners, listening to Wagner as the sun set
across the sea behind Kos Island. It was a perfect day and fun to meet so
many interesting and talented young.
Jonathan's highlight of the week was catching a 35lb blue fin Tuna in the
Rhodes Straight off Simi island. So more Sashimi with drinks; glad I
brought along plenty of wasabi mustard and soy sauce. We had the
asymmetric up at the time, so we were speeding along and the line was
running fast. The asymmetric was speedily snuffed and I brought the yacht
up into wind and slowed to a stop, making it easier for J to bring the
fish in. Tuna steaks last night for dinner spiced with crushed coriander
and black pepper seeds, served with a lime and chilli Thai sauce and an
Avocado and mango salsa, new buttery yellow potatoes, small aubergines
from the garden of our Windmill hosts and green beans, sitting under the
stars in a very quiet marina. The end of August and the place is no
longer buzzing with activity, the evenings are more comfortable with a
cooler breeze.
Now its time to do the laundry and clean the yacht inside and out putting
her to bed until we return at the end of September. We then plan to sail
from to Tunisia, Gib and on down to the Canaries in time to sort the yacht
out before doing the ARC to St. Lucia.
