Before, whilst the Kennon’s were with us and after they left, we met up with quite a few yachtie and TOT Club friends for dinner and drinks. We got to Know Amanda and Mark Clinch and Zoe and Richard quite well. Zoe got me to talk about our yacht fire in New Zealand in 2013 on her local radio station, I haven’t talked about it much as it was quite traumatic at the time, caused, according to the forensic officer by a copper connection not being screwed down again tightly causing arching and slow heating, after we had an electrician on board a week before to put in a new invertor in the engine room. We talked about yacht safety and what to do.
We also had drinks on ‘Gaia’ with Andrew and Beans Eddie, the following day we were visited by RCC friends whom we went skiing with, Peter and Sandy Bruce. That evening we were invited onboard ‘Dorado’ by Steve and Katrin Everett their recently purchased Oyster. We were also near and got together quite a lot with Andy France and his partner Misha who have a Discovery 58 like our, they also had on board their beautiful dog an Airdale dog called Gandolph. We went to a few quiz nights at the Antigua Yacht Club with our local friends. We have both really enjoyed being in Antigua and getting involved with life there and being in one place for awhile.
We slowly packed up the yacht, vacu packing all linen and clothes against moths and damp. We organised for the yacht to be looked after in Catamaran Marina, which they did beautifully. We then returned to the U.K. for a couple of months. Very excited as Becky and Malcolm our son and daughter in law have just announced they are expecting a girl at the end of September.
