Sunday 11th December.

Finished our food shopping in Fort de France on Saturday and ended up buying a very small, real, Christmas Tree! in a pot. Must remember to water it and keep it as cool as possible and hope it survives beyond Christmas Day. I also set up my herb garden again, growing Basil, thyme and mint.

We set sail at 7 am this morning for St. Lucia, averaging 8.5 -10 knots in winds blowing at 25 -30 knots. Atlantic waves coming in on the beam, not the most comfortable sailing. The automatic steering kept going off so we had to manual steer now and again, we think it needs some adjusting which I hope J will be able to do. Otherwise, touch wood, all our electrics appear to be behaving and showing the right readings. The fishing line ran at one point, but the fish got away, unfortunately with some of the line and lear. It is the first time I have been quite pleased about that, as the waves were really big on the beam and unpredictable which meant that turning up into wind to slow the yacht and get the fish in would not have been the safest thing to do.

We dropped anchor in Rodney Bay, cleared up and then took the dingy in to the marina. Found Augusto and crew on the pontoon. We are now meeting them for drinks and dinner tonight. Very good ARC atmosphere here.

It was lovely, in the very lively sail down not to have any really squeaky wood, at last we are getting a yacht we can enjoy rather than worry about and start to ‘Live the Dream’.
