We had a good sail back to Falmouth Harbour from Jolly Harbour and then set about getting ready for our sail south.  Unfortunately we have had electrical problems with our 1 year old batteries not holding their charge, now and again everything goes off, steering, charts, lights etc.  then it all comes back on again.  We have now sailed as far as Les Saintes via an evening and night in Deshaies.  As usual, it happened last time in the same bay, there was an American boat acting like a Rottweiler with the huge amount of space around him.  He was afraid we would swing over his anchor buoy but we were well over a boat length from it.  He told us he managed to get ‘the professionals’ to move, the skipper of the Oyster Zigzag. We looked at our swing  and took in account of the flukey winds around the bay and felt we were fine, well he said ‘I’m leaving at 4am so you better not be in my way’ we said fine, we would be up if necessary, he left at 6.30 am, with loads of clearance to uplift his anchor.  What is it with these guys and they always appear to be flying the American ensign.  The chap we encountered last year in the same bay was going around patrolling ‘his area’ in his dingy, he tried to get us to move and claimed he was a New York Yacht Club member and ‘far more senior to us’  RCC members……  we just ignored him, no point saying anything, just glad they are not carrying guns.
We stopped at midday in a bay opposite Pigeon island, which Jacques Cousteau made famous.  We took the dingy across and had a lovely snorkel around the island, seeing alsorts of fish and some coral.  I tried my new full facial mask, interesting trying to get used to it as one breaths normally with nothing in your mouth, I found when I put my head under the air cut off and it took some time to work out how to empty my mask, but I love it as the visibility is amazing.
We are now at anchor in the beautiful islands of Les Saintes just south of Guadeloupe, easy check in via computer, a delicious dinner ashore the starter of Profiteroles filled with freshwater prawns and a small amount of shell fish sauce was perfect.  I then had seared tuna with a piece of foie gras on top yum..    Today we walked a lot of the island, as we walked it poured with rain for about half an hour, but it was warm so who cares.  The beach had shelters but most of them had the roofs missing.  We then walked along a shore with rolling sea and soft sand too dangerous to swim.  We continued on to find a lovely little cove, sheltered with just one small open fishing boat at anchor, the water was divine, see picture below.
Tomorrow we set off for Martinique and on to Marin to hopefully get our electrics sorted.
