ORTAKENT  25/8/15  KNIDOS 26/915  DATCA 27/5/15 BOZUK BUKA (BOZAKALE)  28/8/15

We had a call from David D’Kantzow….. he is crewing on a yacht from Venice and is now in Turkey so we met up with them in Ortakent a bay just north of Bodrum.  We also needed to pick up our new paddle board from there as one of the ones we had bought developed a leak.  Red Paddle Board company gave us a new one with no quibbles, great company.
David was crewing with a friend on Walidada from Venice they were also in convoy with another yacht called Bradamante.  All 15 came on board Aqualuna for lunch bring various dishes, it was a great and unexpected party.
We then motored around to a bay called Bitez and went ashore for dinner.   The Italians were a little indecisive of various things wanting do one thing and then changing their minds at the last moment.  David jumped ship and decided to explore inland Turkey and then head of to Sweden to see an old friend.  The wife on the yacht Walidada, a 44’ Swan, joined them in Greece and started treating David as a servant, you can imagine how well that went down!!!  He was not going to serve her breakfast or clean her heads….!!  She ended up getting her Philippino maid on board!!!  After dinner we delivered David back to the yacht slightly the worse for wear……  He had a difference of opinion with the owner (they didn’t join us for dinner) so jumped ship..
We set sail across the bay to KNIDOS. We anchored in the harbour which has been used since at least 2000 BC.  We had a bit of a disturbed night from 4 am as a Gulet was swinging on her anchor more than we were and we nearly collided.  The following morning we went ashore to visit the ruins of the ancient city.  Below are some photos, one Byzantine church ruin has Persian graffiti carved into the floor and stone work by the invaders in AD 674. Dinner on board of Thai marinated BBQ chicken with mango and avocado salsa, green beans and rice.
We are having a brilliant time with Antonia, Kate, and Georgie, sailing, paddle boarding, swimming, sunbathing and relaxing just what they all needed after work in London.
The following morning we motored, no wind, around to another bay for lunch, very pretty with pine trees and a beach with a small resort.  On to DATCA for the evening, anchored off the town and went ashore, a typical holiday place full of restaurants on a rather dirty beach.  We ate ashore again.
We sailed around to Bozuk Buka where there is an ancient Phoenician fort the stone work is incredible for something so old.  We had a very relaxing time in a calm, well sheltered bay messing around  in the water and paddle boarding again.  Georgie was catching up everyday, as a teacher she had a lot of student work to correct.
We are now doing a long sail north again.
