Around the world with the Aqualunies

We are now in the process of having our new Discovery 58’ built and this is now near the end.  She was shown at the Dusseldorf Boat Show for the launch of Hull No 1 of the 58’ Discovery.
She will be shown again at the Jersey Boat Show in May and we will then take full delivery of her after that and sail her to Plymouth to get her set up a bit more.
We have had great fun organising her along with John Eustace and Sarah Assael of Discovery who have worked hard getting her ready.  We have been allowed to have a lot of input having already sailed a Discovery 55 half way around the world.
Below are some pictures of her.  I will try to continue to write a regular blog on setting up the galley for long distance sailing and living on her as our home for 6 - 9 months of the year.
We plan to sai her from Plymouth at the beginning of June down to Turkey where we will spend the summer.  We then will sail her to the Canaries to get ready for the ARC.  Jonathan has been asked to do a few Fishing Seminars there so if you want to know more about fishing as you cross the Atlantic then, hopefully, he is your man.

Forward double guest cabin

Pullman berth with good stowage

Looking aft from the forward corridor.  We decided not to have a pilot berth as it became a dumping ground so we have more stowage

and a drinks fridge, book case, TV stowage, cocktail cabinet and extra drawers.

At the Dusseldorf Boat Show.  Looking forward.  We decided we preferred one wheel as we felt less exposed and safer in the cockpit.

The collapsable wheel is too weak for stormy conditions, it bends, but was kept on for the show as it is easier for visitors to look around.

Forward heads with separate shower.

Being launched at the Dusseldorf Boat Show as the first 58’ Discovery.

Saloon interior.  We are going for soft white leather the cream leather shown was on for the show.

The Tech/Utility cabin behind the chart table.  My Miele washer/dryer is set neatly in the cupboard

under the shelves.  Good stowage shelves on top either for linen or anything else, a cupboard next to it which

is quite deep.  Electrical area and door to engine, it will make a good drying room as well when is raining.

The galley is fantastic.  A fantastic GN Espace oven which cooks all around and has a proper wide grill under.

A very large stainless steel front loading fridge with massive capacity.  A very large front opening freezer which will take six good

sized baskets.  A combination microwave.  Sunken drainage board very useful in a rough sea.

Master Aft Cabin with loads of light and space.

Desk/dressing table where I can write my blogs and emails in peace and quiet without getting in the Skipper’s way

Closer look at port holes in aft cabin

Looking forward two very large hanging lockers (his & hers) good stowage under the bunk in a huge drawer divided. Room for

shoes in the foot stool.  Lots of drawers at the side as well for T shirts, underwear etc.

Aqualuna still not rigged but being made ready to motor over to the Dusseldorf Boat Show from Southampton
