Did you miss us yesterday? We decided to get out of the marina for a while and had a great walk round Ponta Delgada wandering up and down many of the little cobble streets. It was interesting to start remembering various places plus finding some new ones too. We ended up at the shopping centre and picked up some supplies and I found some lovely orange sandals, and they had them in my size. Last time we were here I couldn’t find anything that I liked in my size – the Portuguese seem to have such small feet. We still haven’t been able to bring ourselves to buy closed in shoes, but I don’t expect it will be long until we have to succumb.

The rest of the afternoon we spent sitting in the cockpit reading and boat watching. Ponta Delgada is a great place for that with all the commercial traffic, yachts, whale watching trips, fishermen and the Portuguese Navy coming in and out of the harbor. When we were here in 2010 Andrew could practically tell you which big boat was coming in on which day, well we had a lot of waiting around to do then. This time it is much more relaxed.

The fridge continues to behave so one major problem has been solved. The snatching winch has been serviced again and a few other repairs done. Today we scrubbed the cockpit from one end to the other – another good job done, it will be the deck tomorrow and I shall finish in the saloon on Tuesday so we shall be ready to set off again probably Wednesday. We are not sure if we are going to go to Santa Maria and then Lagos or will head straight to Lagos, the winds are very light at the moment so we will make the most of it when we get some.

We have just been for a terrific lunch in a restaurant in the marina complex. It is a Portuguese Italian restaurant that also serves sushi. When we walked along trying to decide where to go after all the hard work this morning it was by far and away the busiest place so we gave it a go. Boy are we glad we did, we had some wonderful gyozas and filo wrapped shimp for starters and then a plate of sushi and sashimi, absolutely delicious and the good news was I had room for desert, Anna Rosina tart, pear and apple tart drizzled with chocolate and very yummy. We are now back in Doris’s bar or the internet and once we have finished here it will be time for a nice Sunday afternoon read I think.

More in due course
