Mana Island, Mamanuca Group, Fiji

We sailed again. After pretty much 2 months in Musket Cove, we actually set sail and went up a little bit further north to explore some of the beautiful islands.

I know, I know, and I've just been reminded (thank you Davie...) - the blog is in dire need of an update. And I will post some pictures of the last 2 months in Fiji. Shortly. The internet connection here has been fantastic, so I don't really have a good excuse. Well, there's cooking, cleaning and massages to be done, fixing of a leak in the fuel tank, oil change, etc., and then also kiting and boogie boarding - and it gets dark at 6! 12 hours are just not enough for one day.

So first a little update on our latest move:

Nach fast 2 Monaten in der recht bequemen und sehr netten, unterhaltsamen und abwechslungsreichen Bucht von Musket Cove Marina and Resort (blog update kommt....) haben wir tatsaechlich mal wieder Segel gesetzt und erkunden die restlichen Inseln der Mamanuca Gruppe.

Am ersten Tag sind wir ganze 8,2 Seemeilen gekommen, bis zur Mana Insel. Das liegt u.a. mit daran, dass es fuer das Gebiet keine zuverlaessigen Karten gibt und mit diversen Untiefen und Korallenkoepfen gespikt ist - man sollte also nur bei wirklich guten Sichtverhaeltnissen unterwegs sein und entsprechende Vorsicht walten lassen.

All islands seem to have some elevation, even the smallest ones - this is a private one, unfortunately, it's hard to see the beautiful house and gardens on this pic.

Hier ist nichts flach - selbst die kleinste Insel hat/bzw. ist ein Huegel. Diese hier ist privat, leider kann man das wunderschoene Haus mit Garten schwer erkennen.

Our paths keep crossing with this impressive ship. Someone said it's for/from Google. They are probably taking pictures with this helicopter. In fact, if you check out for example Castaway Isl. on Google Earth, you see a fantastic 3D image - rather than the 2D satellite picture, so it's probably true. Very impressive way to check out the remotest corners of the earth.

Diesem imposanten Gefaehrt begegnen wir immer wieder. Hat angeblich etwas mit Google zu tun - und es scheint die moderne Vermessung der Welt zu sein - Guckt Euch z.B. mal Castaway Isl. auf Google Earth an - es ist, als ob man im Hubschrauber drueberfliegt.

Little excursion on Mana Island - we are quite impressed, how rocky and hilly the Fijian islands are.

Kleiner Erkundungstrip - wir waren ganz erstaunt, wie huegelig und steinig das hier ist - wenn man sich vorher etwas mit der Geschichte befasst haette allerdings recht einleuchtend...

Very nice - they have a turtle protect program here. To keep them clean and healthy, they clean the shield (and I'm not sure which other parts) of the little ones with a toothbrush!

Im Rahmen eines Schildkroetenschutzprogrammes wird hier der Nachwuchs behuetet aufgezogen - die Saeuberung der Kleinen wird mit einer Zahnbuerste durchgefuehrt - sehr praktische Idee.

Little snorkel exploration of the extensive reef - and we saw beautiful corals, a white tip reef shark, three turtles and a blue spottet ray - lovely!

Auf zum Schnorcheln! Das weitflaechige Riff beherbergt einen schoenen Korallengarten, und wir haben sogar 3 Schildkroeten, einen kleinen Riffhai und einen Rochen gesehen.
