Day 2
Greetings Landlubbers
After a very busy first night, we had a quiet day with light variable winds, and some spectacular scenery of both Cape Naturaliste and Cape Leeuwin. Not often that a sailor can knock off 2 capes in one day!

We had a clew ring fail during the night. This caused the foot of the mainsail to lose its tension and hence its driving force. It's also very effective at giving the on-watch crew a good old scare..At this stage, we opted to sling a reef in (shortened sail) and go under 1 reef and staysail alone. Nevertheless, we were still charging along at 7 or 8 knots.

This stainless steel clew ring would have been sewn into the corner of the sail at the time of manufacture, with the webbing strops sewn through the ring then back onto the sail. So the good news is that there's no damage to the sail, but we will have to get creative with a replacement.

We've had sporadic 3G coverage during the day, Salty Sal's work colleagues will take great delight no doubt in her disgust at the lack of Optus coverage, when Moby on his $20 casual plan with Telstra kept going and going. Unfortunately, he wouldn't share it.

The pink team of girl chefs knocked up a lovely red thai curry tonight, it's such a pleasure to have the time to cook, though finding the elusive ingredient on the boat can be quite frustrating, especially when you know it's onboard but can't quite remember which locker you chucked it into. Captain does try to get us to write it all down, but when you are faced with a mountain of food which you just want stowed, it's difficult to remember to jot it all down.

Anyway lubbers, hope you are all well, love and kisses to Sister Sue in Calgary for a belated happy birthday...
