The Mistral and Tramontana winds are blowing strongly right now, and are forecast to continue over the next week so we can expect strong northerly to north westerly winds (favourable for us) for the first part of our trip as we cross the Golf du Lyon. Sadly these winds are likely to disappear as we approach Barcelona and we may have to motor to keep up the pace. Here is today's GRIB chart showing wind speed and direction. The arrows show wind direction, the number of feathers on each arrow show speed. the long feathers are 10 knots each, the short ones 5. So the purple arrows here show a wind of 40 knots from the North.

Tim has created the following snaps which show our planned routing. We can expect some sandstorms off the Sahara close to the North West African coast so we will plan to sail a more westerly route after Gibraltar.
