Unfortunately thhe wind gods didnt play nicely and the trip down took longer and cost more in diesel than we had expected. The upside was that on entering the Delaware Bay at Cape May we encountered our first dolphins in a very long time. A good omen!

The most unusual happening on the trip down however was a visitation by a tiny bat some 70 miles offshore. This tiny little thing, only a few inches long, came into the cockpit, had a shuffle about and found a dark corner under our boat hook to have a rest. It stayed there all day and as we dropped our anchor just inside Cape May at dusk, it came back to life an flew off the 100 meters or so to the wooded shoreline. What on earth it was doing or where it was going 70 miles offshore we have no idea, but it was a pleasant interlude to our day.

We rest here tonight and set off early tomorrow with a favourable tidal current to take us the 50 miles up the bay.
