We exited the Gulf Stream about 50/60 miles after we entered. The entry point was easy to identify as the water temp shot up from the 17/18C that we had been experiencing on the East Coast USA to 28C and the colour turned a bright aqua marine from the browny green that we had come accustomed to.  The sea was churning and the every weather forecast we had was wrong. We were expecting winds from the south west (with the stream) and we had them from the north east all the way. As I said in my earlier post, not what any sailor would choose. Once you’re there though, it’s a bit like being on an extended fairground ride; you can’t get off, you just have to go with it.  The boat was thrown about and we were really glad that we had crew on board, especially as I succumbed to feeling not too well.  We exited at around sunset exactly as planned, it was just the middle bit that didn’t go to plan.

 

All is well on board, crew are well and the boat is in one piece. We will now turn our bow south east to sun and rum.
