We went to a Wedding!

George Town, Exuma

Having arrived back in George Town from Long Island we immediately sought shelter in preparation for the next frontal system heading our way from the east coast of the USA. This one had different characteristics from the last with more wind from the north than previously so we had to move anchorage yet again after the front passed to avoid too much bouncing up and down. And then we were invited to a beach wedding !

This brought about a number of firsts for us such as wearing casual shirts, shorts and no shoes to such an important event. Also arriving at a wedding by our own boat instead of by car.  In fact everyone arrived by boat because it was held on Stocking Island off George Town which has no airstrip.  It all took place on a beach rather than in a registry office or church. The bride and groom only knew the two people on the boat they were staying with who were related to the groom. It must have been as unique for them as it was for us. But it all worked very well, and we were honoured to be included with the few guests.

So, how did we come to be invited? Well, the bride and groom had flown in from Canada. Good cruising friends of ours knew their relatives having met them whilst cruising and they asked if there were any other people that might like to attend. In all the 'congregation' numbered around 16 including the minister. He had to be transported from George Town by water taxi. It was an amazing day with excellent food provided by the good people on 'Bikini' & 'Amazing Grace' ending with a sing-song on the beach with some awful Kazoo playing by the audience. All watched over by a curious little frog that sat in the rafters of the little beach shelter where the reception took place. There was a grand firework display at the end of the evening before the beach bugs finally got the better of us all and we returned to our boats anchored just offshore which were coincidently all catamarans.

Here's our view of the event...

'Bikini ' - the host boat                                                                     and the beach location for the ceremony...

The spot had been reserved for the occasion.........                and the Bride looked wonderful, led down the 'aisle' by her Brother-in-Law

The Minister took the service.....                                                                     watched by the assembled masses ....

The happy couple hold up their marriage certificate for all to see and then it was time to open the bubbly.........

....whilst the Minister took off in a hurry to his next engagement with a flying leap into the water taxi so as not to wet his shoes

It's what the sand is there for                        Then the evening entertainment begins .........

With the elegant and dignified...........                                                                        and ...oh dear.....the not so dignified on the accompanying Kazoos !

.... all watched over by the contented little frog in the rafters - he or she (who can tell)  seemed to have enjoyed the day as much as we did

We hope Mike and Mel have a very happy life together........................

Note: The kasoo is a musical instrument that adds a "buzzing" timbrall quality to a player's voice when the player vocalizes into it.
